Now open: Macho Mystic Meltdown: Subtracted Anthology by Natasha TonteyStep into psychedelic, witty universes where identity becomes fluid, open to transformation, and resistant to fixed categories.
Last Friday 11 September, we celebrated the opening of the first Dutch solo exhibition of Minahasan artist Natasha Tontey. In Macho Mystic Meltdown: Subtracted Anthology, you step into psychedelic, witty universes where identity becomes fluid, open to transformation, and resistant to fixed categories. Tontey invites you to think of a more inclusive world through speculative fiction. Her fascination finds expression in experimental video works and performances.
You can visit the exhibition until Sunday 1 November 2026. In the meantime, we offer you an extended program including guided tours, an immersive dinner experience during Edible Concepts, and the recurring Background Evening. You can find more details about these events in this newsletter!

in conversation with
ROCHER KOENDJBIHARIE
Each artist exhibiting at 1646 is invited to have an Email Conversation with a correspondent who is not familiar yet with the work. It serves as a resource for you, as a visitor, enabling you to gain deeper insights - not only into the exhibition itself, but also into the thinking processes, hesitations, and questions that inform artistic decisions. Natasha Tontey got into an Email Conversation with Dutch writer and journalist Rocher Koendjbiharie.
You can pick up a free copy of the Email Conversation during your visit or read the conversation on our website.
