Along with Mama Magnet, we will host ‘Jugaad: Absolute Improvisation’, a two-day fair celebrating printed works and handheld objects that explore the theme of absolute improvisation. We are also thrilled to welcome Amra Khan, a visual artist who will be in Amsterdam on 16 October. Join us for a deeper look into her practice, followed by a delicious dinner, as part of our ongoing Chai & Conversations series.
9-10 OCTOBER 2026
JUGAAD: ABSOLUTE IMPROVISATION
For one weekend, SAC Art Amsterdam and Mama Magnetbring together ‘Jugaad: Absolute Improvisation’, a fair for printed matter, handheld works and a reading room. The artists come from eight countries, but the instinct at the heart of the programme is familiar across South Asia: jugaad, the everyday intelligence of adapting, reworking and finding another way through.
Discover independent artist books, zines, prints and small-format works that find possibility in improvisation and the DIY spirit. Come look, chat, sip chai and take something home with you, here in the Oostelijke Havengebied.
Friday 9 October · 16:00 - 20:00 Saturday 10 October · 12:00 - 20:00 Panamakade 200 · Entry €3
Chai shared in a grandmother’s teacup and a recipe passed down through generations become living archives. For our current show, ‘Upon Us After’, Amra Khan brings the magic of vintage surmadanis and salvaged wooden portals from pre-Partition homes into contemporary art. Working with brass, wood, canvas, acrylic and gold leaf, her works explore devotion, memory and material culture.
For this edition of Chai & Conversations: Dinner Edition, SAC Art Amsterdam and Tasty Talks invite you to gather around the table with Amra Khan, joining us from Lahore as our special guest. Amra will take us through her works, share more about her practice and join us for dinner. We hope the evening will unfold through conversation, food, memory and stories. We invite you to bring an object of your own, either passed down or rescued, so we can share its story around the table too.
