Graag nodigen we je uit voor de opening van 2013-2023 (and sometimes 2003) van Steve Kado, samengesteld door Jacob Korczynski. Deze bevat werken uit één decennium die resoneren met het cyclisch verloop van natuurlijk licht en de doorleefde van Manifold Books. Samen vormen ze daarmee een serialiteit die zich eerder als een gestippelde dan een doorlopende lijn manifesteert. Gedurende de jaren heeft Steve Kado zijn aandacht verdeeld tussen het maken van exposities en het publiceren van drukwerk, zoals , edities en multiples, die buiten de circuleren. De presentatie bij Manifold Books erkent deze twee als verweven en onderling afhankelijk, en brengt dat wat zich eerst buiten bevond naar binnen.
Het addendum bij de verwijst naar het enige werk in deze expositie dat in traditionele zin tijdsgebonden is en slechts eenmalig in de ruimte te ervaren zal zijn. 2003 is de titel van een muzikale compositie van de kunstenaar die al vele vormen heeft aangenomen: van een gepubliceerde partituur tot een aantal solo-en met verschillende instrumenten. De huidige versie van 2003 wordt op 8 november door Steve Kado uitgevoerd als solo voor een drumcomputer. De initiële scheiding, progressieve syncopering en subtiele verschuiving van het ritme geven muzikale vorm aan wat de voortdurend zichtbare werken verkennen in risoprint, sculptuur en fotografie.

De belichaamde sensaties die we zullen onderzoeken, omvatten zowel als menselijke perspectieven. Of Ghosts and Flowers vertrekt vanuit het werk van Rosemary Mayer (1943-2014). 2013-2023 (and sometimes 2003) is de derde expositie binnen dit programma; deze cyclus zal worden voortgezet met een expositie van Francisca Khamis Giacoman.

We would like to invite you to the opening of 2013-2023 (and sometimes 2003) by Steve Kado, curated by Jacob Korczynski. This solo exhibition primarily surveys a decade of works that resonate with cycles of natural light and the extant architecture to engage a seriality that manifests itself as a dotted line rather than a continuous one. Throughout time, Steve Kado has divided his focus between making exhibitions and the publication of printed matter including artists's books, editions and multiples—that are encountered outside them. This presentation at Manifold Books recognizes these two histories as intertwined and interdependent, and brings that outside, in.
The addendum to the exhibition title points towards the only work to be presented in this show that is time-based in a traditional sense and can be experienced in the space only once. 2003 is the title of a musical composition by the artist that has assumed many forms, from a published score to a number of solo and ensemble performances using various . The current iteration of 2003 will be performed by Steve Kado as a solo for drum machine on November 8. The initial separation, progressive syncopation and subtle shift of the synthesized rhythm give musical form to what the invariably visible works explore in printmaking, sculpture and photography.

About our current year programme Of Ghosts and Flowers Of Ghosts and Flowersproposes a transition from last year's programmeThe Sphinx's Riddlearound grief and transformation to an exhibition and event series about non-linear time experiences. The urgency for this arose from the content of this programme, and how the system of linear time imposed on us disintegrates in the face of death, grief and profound mental and physical transformative processes. In addition, it feels urgent to formulate alternative forms of dealing with time because our system of linear time is linked to our economic system; the biggest driver of climate change. The embodied sensations we will look into include non-human perspectives as well as human ones. Of Ghosts and Flowers departs from the work of Rosemary Mayer (1943-2014). 2013-2023 (and sometimes 2003) is the third exhibition within this programme; a show by Francisca Khamis Giacoman will continue this cycle.
