Lucy Skaer lives on the Isle of Lewis. She is an artist who works with sculpture, film, print and drawing. Her work slows ideas down to abstractions and makes them concrete. This book has been conceived as a moment in time. The sculptures that appear in its pages have been rephotographed to allow them to exist anew in book form, alongside recent photographs of surroundings, events and landscapes from the artist’s life. The images were then given to two writers to respond to directly. What emerges is ‘a space that contains her various sensibilities on pages partitioned, like rooms or chambers’, now receding in time. Contributions by Ingrid Schaffner and K Patrick.

Join for a discussion led by affect lab designer Pedro Lobo about the Bloody Beautiful Playbook. The book is both a colourful invitation and a creative vision for a subject that (until recently) has received almost no airtime in the arts and culture scene: women’s health.
The Playbook is part of a larger movement started in Amsterdam by creative/research studio affect lab, to reimagine and critically reflect on the world of women’s health through art, design & storytelling. The book chronicles the ever-growing Bloody Beautiful movement (questions, frictions, experiments) since it started in 2022 with contributions from over 120 artists including Klasien van de Zandschulp, Natalie Dixon, Juliette Brederode, Debra Knoop, Thais Zucchetti, Mayim Frieden, Emma Lambaa-Bonde, Pedro Lobo, Maria Hadjicosti.
In this discussion Pedro will cover some of the design decisions made in the making process, as well as the book’s weirdly temporal format and personality. Presented in an open-binding format with space for user-generated content and spontaneous additions, no Playbook is the same.
Situated somewhere between a book and a zine, readers are invited to remix and “live-edit” their Playbooks with notes, drawings and new content additions as they are released.
