Melted for Love brengt installaties, films, geluidswerken en performances samen die laten zien hoe land, lichamen en ecosystemen worden gevormd en aangetast door diverse systemen van uitbuiting. Door te luisteren naar de echo’s die deze aantasting achterlaten, reflecteert de op de gebaren van liefde en verbondenheid met land en gemeenschap als vormen van verzet en herstel.

In W139 richt de zich op hoe ecosystemen worden gevormd onder druk van militarisering, koloniale bezetting en ecologische ontwrichting. De kunstwerken volgen verschillende soorten van signalen – zoals geluidsgolven, trillingen, en ecologische veranderingen – terwijl deze zich verplaatsen over het landschap, door ondergrondse netwerken en door de wereld.

flour, water, soil, geïnitieerd door maria khatchadourian, is een die dit voorjaar plaatsvindt in W139. Voor de worden de tonratun (Թոնրատուն) – het bakkershuis – en de eeuwenoude traditie van het bakken van lavash in ondergrondse kleiovens – tonir (Թոնիր) – als blauwdruk genomen. De reflecteert op voedsel, land en als de waarbinnen ontheemding, koloniale breuken en verwantschap gedragen en betwist kunnen worden.

De ontvouwt zich door middel van een langdurige dialoog en collectief proces met de uitgenodigde kunstenaars Areej Ashhab, Ola Hassanain, Ai Ozaki en het duo Common Ground (Anna Celda en Saja Amro), met verdere bijdragen die in februari bekend worden gemaakt. Samen richten hun werken zich op de aardbodem, zaden, fermentatie en ruïnes als plaatsen waar zorg en geweld met elkaar verweven zijn – plekken die verhalen over herstel, onteigening en continuïteit dragen.

Gedurende negen weken wordt de geactiveerd door middel van interventies, waaronder workshops rond voorouderlijke recepten, bijeenkomsten, wildplukken, , landpraktijken en speculatieve excursies.

Melted for Love brings together installations, films, sound works, and performances that reflect on how land, bodies, and ecosystems are shaped and altered by systems of exploitation. By listening to the echoes left behind, it highlights gestures of love and connection with land and community as forms of resistance and repair.

At W139, the exhibition focuses on how ecosystems absorb the pressures of militarisation, colonial occupation, and environmental disruption. The artworks follow different types of signals – such as sound waves, vibrations, radio transmissions, and ecological changes – as they move across landscapes, through subsurface networks, and throughout the world.

flour, water, soil, initiated by maria khatchadourian, is an exhibition taking place this spring at W139. Drawing on the tonratun (Թոնրատուն)—the bakery house—and the centuries-old practice of baking lavash in subterranean clay ovens called tonir (Թոնիր) as a blueprint, the exhibition reflects on food, land, and agricultural practice as the through which geographies of displacement, colonial rupture, and kinship are carried and contested.

The exhibition unfolds through long-term dialogue and collective process with invited artists Areej Ashhab, Ola Hassanain, Ai Ozaki, and the duo Common Ground (Anna Celda and Saja Amro), with further contributions to be announced in February. Together, their works attend to soil, seed, fermentation, and ruin as sites where care and violence are entangled—holding stories of repair, dispossession, and continuity.

Over the course of nine weeks, the exhibition will be activated through interventions, including workshops centered on ancestral recipes, communal gatherings, foraging, audio walks, land practices, and speculative field trips.
