Flora Fritz exhibition Home Video is on view until February 28th

Image description

Dear friends, I hope the start of the year has been pleasant for you.

I am excited to share installation views of our current exhibition by Flora Fritz. In this body of work, Fritz places her ongoing interest in digital image generation in direct dialogue with the physical reality of landscape painting. The exhibition focuses specifically on the newly developed outskirts of Amsterdam: landscapes defined by manicured parks and massive lakes constructed to offset housing density.

These "non-iconic" sites are forced into existence by a mix of randomness and determination, resulting in environments that feel simultaneously developed and entirely artificial. Fritz captures the profound discomfort of these spaces by priming her canvases with a specialized gray gesso typically used for video projection. This choice transforms the paintings into dormant monitors, creating a surface that feels like a reality still "loading" or a series of buffering screenshots.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the work!

Best regards,

Image description

Please join us this Sunday, 25th of January, for the Amsterdam book launch of MONEY HORSE BOOK at Hartwig Proxy. In the presence of the artist, copies of the book will be available, and light refreshments will be offered. From 3-5pm.

Sands Murray-Wassink (Topeka, Kansas) is a painter, writer, and performance artist based in Amsterdam. A cult figure in the city’s art scene, his work spans decades, touching on themes of gender, desire, intimacy, mental health, and . Deeply influenced by intersectional feminism and queer theory, his practice revolves around, and is shaped by figures such as Carolee Schneemann, Hannah Wilke, Adrian Piper, and Eva Hesse.

Since 2014, Sands has predominantly focused on what he calls “Horse Drawings,” utilising mostly watercolours and often incorporating quickly drawn texts, on A4 and A3 formats, both on white, coloured paper and found material such as newspapers. These drawings, while sometimes devoid of actual horse imagery, all bear the title and embody the spirit of equine grace, symbolising a personal journey towards healing. The horse, a figure the artist was once restricted from engaging with by his grandfather due to its perceived femininity, has evolved in his work as an emblem of transformation and healing. The book includes a broad selection of over 700 drawings printed in full colour, and the short text Investment by Sands.
