Opening Sonic Acts Biennial 2026: Melted for Love bij W139

Kom naar de feestelijke opening van Sonic Acts Biennial 2026, Melted for Love bij W139. Met gratis toegang, speciale performances en een bruisende bar.
De avond omvat een bijzondere performance van Music Research Strategies (Marshall Trammell), Pedagogy of the Surveilled: Listen Like Wolves. Aan de hand van een reeks acties voor performer en percussionist, samen met een 'Active Listening' Conduction Ensemble, wordt collectieve aandacht gemobiliseerd als een creatieve en affectieve kracht.
Van 6 februari t/m 29 maart is bij W139, Arti et Amicitiae en ROZENSTRAAT Melted for Love te zien als onderdeel van de Sonic Acts Biennial 2026. Melted for Love onderzoekt hoe het begrip ‘thuis’ verandert onder invloed van de klimaatcrisis, koloniale en gedwongen migratie.
Bij W139 richt de zich op hoe ecosystemen worden gevormd onder druk van militarisering, koloniale bezetting en ecologische ontwrichting. De kunstwerken volgen verschillende soorten van signalen – zoals geluidsgolven, trillingen, en ecologische veranderingen – terwijl deze zich verplaatsen over het landschap, door ondergrondse netwerken en door de wereld.
Met werken van Lower Levant Company & Olga Micińska, Adelita Husni-Bey, Diana Policarpo & Bernardo Gaeiras, Alina Schmuch, en Maeve Brennan.
W139 is op zoek naar één student of recent afgestudeerde (woonachtig in omgeving Amsterdam) die vanaf maart 2026 ons team kan versterken als allround stagiair.
W139 is een bijzondere , waar veel kunst ter plekke gemaakt wordt en we nauw samenwerken met kunstenaars aan de ontwikkeling van nieuwe presentaties en ’s. Je zit daardoor dus dicht op het ‘vuur’, wat de stage leuk en leerzaam maakt, en je maakt kennis met veel praktijken en mensen.
W139 hecht grote waarde aan diversiteit binnen haar organisatie. Mensen met verschillende achtergronden in studie, afkomst of cultuur worden nadrukkelijk uitgenodigd om te solliciteren.

In de buurt: Warmoes Biënnale
— 7 maart t/m 3 mei 2026
Gedurende twee maanden laten kunstenaars, ondernemers, culturele instellingen en bewoners samen zien wat er in de Warmoesstraat leeft. Met intieme én grootschalige kunstwerken op onverwachte plekken, een gevarieerd programma en een warm welkom van de buurt, nodigt het festival je uit om met een frisse blik naar dit bekritiseerde maar ook geliefde stadsdeel te kijken.
Op uitnodiging van W139 zet het collectief tijdens de Warmoes Biënnale pop-up op in een pakketpunt, wasserette en nagelsalon. Daar maken ze samen met bezoekers en passanten drie publicaties over welzijn; wachten wordt zo een moment om anders naar je omgeving te kijken.
Met het nalatenschap van Karl Heinrich Ulrichs (1825-1895) als startpunt onderzoekt gastcurator en W139 alumnus Philipp Gufler in deze de beperkingen van taal – vroeger en nu – in het beschrijven van verlangens, en roept op tot solidariteit. Philipp initieerde Substitutes in 2023 bij W139.

Opening Sonic Acts Biennial 2026: Melted for Love at W139

Come celebrate the opening of the W139 exhibition – the first of Melted for Love’s three exhibition chapters across Amsterdam. With free entry, a buzzing bar, and a special performance, we stay open late, turning the evening into a lively gathering point for anyone curious to dive in.
The evening features a performance by Music Research Strategies (Marshall Trammell), Pedagogy of the Surveilled: Listen Like Wolves. Conceived as a set of actions for performer and percussionist together with an ‘Active Listening’ Conduction Ensemble, Listen Like Wolves mobilises collective attention as a creative and affective force.
From 6 February until 29 Marchacross W139, Arti et Amicitiae, and Rozenstraat host Melted for Love as part of the Sonic Acts Biennial 2026. Melted for Love explores how the notion of ‘home’ is being renegotiated by climate crisis, colonial histories, and forced displacement.
At W139, the exhibition focuses on how ecosystems absorb the pressures of militarisation, colonial occupation, and environmental disruption. The artworks follow different types of signals – such as sound waves, vibrations, radio transmissions, and ecological changes – as they move across landscapes, through subsurface networks, and throughout the world.
With works by Lower Levant Company & Olga Micińska, Adelita Husni-Bey, Diana Policarpo & Bernardo Gaeiras, Alina Schmuch, and Maeve Brennan.

W139 is looking for a student or recent graduate (living in or around Amsterdam) to join our team from March 2026 onwards as allround intern.
W139 is a special exhibition venue where we closely collaborate with artists to develop new presentations and public programmes. As an intern, you’ll be right at the heart of it all — making the experience both enjoyable and enriching, while getting to know diverse artistic practices and meeting a wide range of people.
W139 values diversity within its organisation. People with different backgrounds in study, origin or culture are expressly invited to apply.

In the neighbourhood: Warmoes Biënnale
— 7 March until 3 May 2026
For two months, artists, entrepreneurs, cultural institutions, and residents join forces to reveal the pulse of this neighbourhood. With art ranging from intimate to monumental—often in surprising locations—alongside events and genuine local hospitality, the festival offers a new perspective on this contested, yet deeply loved part of the city.
For the Warmoes Biënnale, W139 invited the collective to collaborate with visitors on three publications exploring well-being. The collective set up pop-up editorial offices in places where people wait: a parcel collection point, a laundrette, and a nail salon. While waiting, visitors are invited to see their surroundings through a new lens as they contribute to the publications.
With the legcacy of Karl Henrich Ulrichs (1825-1895) as the starting point, guest curator and W139 alum Philipp Gufler explores the limitations of language–then and now–in expressing desire, and calls for intersectional solidarity. Philipp initiatedSubstitutes in 2023 at W139.
