Sonic Acts Biennial 2026: Melted for Love bij W139

Nog t/m 29 maart is Melted for Love te zien bij W139, Arti et Amicitiae en ROZENSTRAAT, als onderdeel van de Sonic Acts Biennial 2026. Melted for Love onderzoekt hoe het begrip ‘thuis’ verandert onder invloed van de klimaatcrisis, koloniale en gedwongen migratie.
Bij W139 richt de zich op hoe ecosystemen worden gevormd onder druk van militarisering, koloniale bezetting en ecologische ontwrichting. De kunstwerken volgen verschillende soorten van signalen – zoals geluidsgolven, trillingen, en ecologische veranderingen – terwijl deze zich verplaatsen over het landschap, door ondergrondse netwerken en door de wereld.
Met werken van Lower Levant Company & Olga Micińska, Adelita Husni-Bey, Diana Policarpo & Bernardo Gaeiras, Alina Schmuch, en Maeve Brennan.
flour, water, soil, geïnitieerd door maria khatchadourian, is een die reflecteert op voedsel, land en als de waarbinnen ontheemding, koloniale breuken en verwantschap gedragen en betwist kunnen worden.
De ontvouwt zich door middel van een langdurige dialoog en collectief proces met de uitgenodigde kunstenaars Areej Ashhab, AZ OOR, Ola Hassanain, Ai Ozaki en het duo Common Ground (Anna Celda en Saja Amro). Samen richten hun werken zich op de aardbodem, zaden, fermentatie en ruïnes als plaatsen waar zorg en geweld met elkaar verweven zijn – plekken die verhalen over herstel, onteigening en continuïteit dragen.
Gedurende negen weken wordt de geactiveerd door middel van gezamenlijke interventies, waaronder workshops rond voorouderlijke recepten, bijeenkomsten, wildplukken, , landpraktijken en speculatieve excursies.
Opening Warmoes Biënnale

Wees welkom bij de opening van de Warmoes Biënnale, aanstaande zaterdag in de Warmoesstraat. Gedurende twee maanden laten kunstenaars, ondernemers, culturele instellingen en bewoners samen zien wat er in de Warmoesstraat leeft. Met intieme én grootschalige kunstwerken op onverwachte plekken, een gevarieerd programma en een warm welkom van de buurt, nodigt het festival je uit om met een frisse blik naar dit bekritiseerde maar ook geliefde stadsdeel te kijken.

Wij feliciteren Reyhan Lál met de toekenning van de 3Package Deal! In coalitie met Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam en Rijksakademie droeg W139 Lál voor als talent in discipline beeldende kunst. Zij is één van de vijftien kunstenaars uit binnen- en buitenland die starten met de dertiende editie van 3Package Deal, het van het Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst (AFK) en Bureau Broedplaatsen van de gemeente Amsterdam.

Sonic Acts Biennial 2026: Melted for Love at W139

Melted for Love is still on show until 29 Marchacross W139, Arti et Amicitiae, and Rozenstraat, as part of the Sonic Acts Biennial 2026. Melted for Love explores how the notion of ‘home’ is being renegotiated by climate crisis, colonial histories, and forced displacement.
At W139, the exhibition focuses on how ecosystems absorb the pressures of militarisation, colonial occupation, and environmental disruption. The artworks follow different types of signals – such as sound waves, vibrations, radio transmissions, and ecological changes – as they move across landscapes, through subsurface networks, and throughout the world.
With works by Lower Levant Company & Olga Micińska, Adelita Husni-Bey, Diana Policarpo & Bernardo Gaeiras, Alina Schmuch, and Maeve Brennan.

flour, water, soil, initiated by maria khatchadourian, is a group exhibition that reflects on food, land, and agricultural practice as the through which geographies of displacement, colonial rupture, and kinship are carried and contested.
The exhibition unfolds through long-term dialogue and collective process with invited artists Areej Ashhab, AZ OOR, Ola Hassanain, Ai Ozaki, and the duo Common Ground (Anna Celda and Saja Amro). Together, their works attend to soil, seed, fermentation, and ruin as sites where care and violence are entangled—holding stories of repair, dispossession, and continuity.
Over the course of nine weeks, the exhibition will be activated through interventions, including workshops centered on ancestral recipes, communal gatherings, foraging, audio walks, land practices, and speculative field trips.

Opening Warmoes Biënnale

For two months, artists, entrepreneurs, cultural institutions, and residents join forces to reveal the pulse of this neighbourhood. With art ranging from intimate to monumental—often in surprising locations—alongside events and genuine local hospitality, the festival offers a new perspective on this contested, yet deeply loved part of the city.

W139 invited the collective to collaborate with visitors on three publications exploring well-being. The collective set up pop-up editorial offices in places where people wait: a parcel collection point, a laundromat, and a tattoo shop.

We congratulate Reyhan Lál on receiving the 3Package Deal! In coalition with the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Rijksakademie, W139 nominated Lál as a talent in the visual arts discipline. She is one of fifteen artists that are starting the thirteenth edition of the 3Package Deal, the talent development programme of Amsterdam Fund for the Arts and Bureau Broedplaatsen of the Municipality of Amsterdam.
