15:30 curator and artist talks
What makes a species invasive? And who decides who or what is allowed to call a place home? In Host(ile) Lands, four Asian artists living in the Netherlands – Kumi Hiroi, Hangfeng Chen, Mariko Hori and Pan – present new work that explores the complex relationship between migration, ecology and cultural identity. Focusing on plants and animals that are valued in their countries of origin but labelled ‘invasive’ in the Netherlands, the exhibition challenges visitors to think critically about value judgements, ecological justice and the concept of ‘home’.
[part of the installation “Sitting in the Same Soup” by Mariko Hori]
Host(ile) Lands poses the question: Can we imagine other ways of living together, outside the existing frameworks that determine who or what is valuable?

Chorising Symbionts 19 April - 10 Mei, buiten het Glazen Huis opening 19 April, 15:00-17:00 uur
This spring, Matteo Marangoni’s Chorusing Symbionts will enchant the Amstelpark! Near Het Glazen Huis an ensemble of ten Cicadas hang in the trees, taking their energy from the sun, and making music together responding to variations in solar illumination, the shadows of leaves moving in the wind, the sounds of each other and other creatures. They use an embedded AI model trained on local bird data to recognise when birds are calling or singing nearby and they adjust their own sound to reduce interference between electronic and bioacoustics signals. Visitors are invited to listen to the music resulting from the interactions between the artificial creatures and the surrounding environment.
Matteo Marangoni is an artist and community organiser interested in sonic rituals, DIY media and applied utopianism. His artistic practice focuses on creating spatial experiences probing the relationship between subject and object, nature and technology.
