Framer Framed is celebrating its 15th anniversary!
On Saturday 23 May, Framer Framed celebrates its 15th anniversary with the launch of the new publication Notes to Other Futures (2026). We look back on 15 years filled with inspiring exhibitions, projects and collaborations.
Notes to Other Futures (2026) is an extensive anthology that reflects on the past years while also looking ahead to futures rooted in solidarity and transformation.
The launch will take place during a book fair at Framer Framed, where artists, activists and independent publishers will present a rich world of subversive publishing. At 17:00, Mirjam Shatanawi will interview co-directors Cas Bool and Josien Pieterse about the history of Framer Framed, before the evening continues with music and food.
We warmly invite you to celebrate with us!

Wild Waters examines water as instrument of political power
Curated by Àngels Miralda, Wild Waters explores the relationships between water, colonial history, and land use through works by Jumana Emil Abboud, Suzette Bousema, Ewa Ciepielewska & Agnieszka Brzeżańska, Giovanni Giaretta, Adelita Husni-Bey, Anna Moreno, Suat Öğüt, Eunice Pais, Ashfika Rahman, Morteza Soorani, and Abdo Zin Eldin.
The exhibition will be on view from 19 June through 30 August 2026.
During the finissage of Between Fires on 17 May, from 15:00 to 18:00, curator Fabienne Rachmadiev, artist Inas Halabi, and researcher Samia Henni will engage in a conversation about the often invisible but lasting consequences of nuclear activities. It will also be the final opportunity to see The Burial of a Brown Goose by buulbuul – a performance about grief, anger and care in a world where ecological damage cannot easily be undone.
North Holland is getting a new art project: a 35-meter-long and 3-meter-high tapestry in which stories about the province’s colonial and slavery history come together. The initiative by Ricardo Burgzorg started in Groningen and has since been realised in seven provinces.
In North Holland, it features a new design by Raul Balai. Until 30 August, you can join in every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at Framer Framed to help work on the tapestry.
In this project initiated by the Arts Education research group at the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK), twenty art teachers collaborated on developing new teaching methods in which their educational practice functions as an artistic workspace.
Based on the idea of the “teacher as conceptual artist”, the boundary between teaching and art-making becomes blurred. The results will be presented in September 2026 at Framer Framed.
Curated by Fabienne Rachmadiev and presented in collaboration with Sonic Acts, the exhibition explores the entanglement of colonial power structures with nuclear energy and testing, and the global forms of resistance that have emerged in response.
Artists and residents from Amsterdam East come together to talk about their neighbourhood – what they value, what could be improved, and what they hope for the area in the future.
We invite local residents, authors, designers, artists, collectives, activists, and independent publishers to discover and present new books, and to connect with their makers.
Artist Mirjam Linschooten and researcher Skye Maule-O’Brien present their upcoming publication, which explores wind, wind technologies and Dutch colonial history.
The project brings together different stories in a powerful and unifying artwork. You are welcome every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to help work on the monumental tapestry.
Open Call: de Nieuwe Meent (dNM) OPEN CALL for a mural
Open call for artists, writers, designers, architects and activists. The housing collective De Nieuwe Meent, Framer Framed, De Appel, and If I Can’t Dance, I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution invite proposals for a prominent mural at the De Nieuwe Meent site in Amsterdam East.
Framer Framed Noord is a new space for art and culture in Amsterdam North, where local knowledge, collective practices and artistic research come together. It is also the new home of Werkplaats Molenwijk, a project space that for almost seven years provided room for artists, arts education and co-creation projects with local residents.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who would like to learn how to bake using our own tandoor. Interested? Get in touch via noord@framerframed.nl.
Every Monday | 10:00 - 13:00
Are you working on your own textile project?
Every Monday, local residents gather in the sewing studio. Participants work on their sewing, embroidery, or textile projects. Local residents Reza and Sonya are present to help with questions and techniques.
Under the guidance of cultural coaches, a weekly group of young people works on various art projects to further develop their creative skills. They experiment, learn together, and engage in conversations about everything that is going on in their lives at those moments.
Opening times Tuesday until Sunday: 12:00 – 18:00 Free entry
Framer Framed is located in the purification hall of the former and is within walking distance from Muiderpoort train station and the Oostpoort tram stop.
