Nu open: Out of Office (Still Here)

Nest is Out of Office, maar (Still Here)! Op vrijdag 1 mei, de dag van de arbeid, opende onze over (on)gelijkheid en vrijheid in de zomervakantie. Kunstenaars uit Den Haag, Nederland en buitenland reflecteren op hun idee van vakantie, vrijheid en de toegang tot ontspanning, sport en spel.
Out of Office (Still Here) is de hele zomer geopend. Tijdens de zomer organiseren we een publiek programma, speciaal voor alle thuisblijvers: zij die om wat voor reden dan ook niet met vakantie gaan of kunnen. Er zijn workshops voor kinderen en volwassenen en een heuse Block Party: een buurtfeest met muziek, kunst, eten, workshops en nog veel meer.

Zomerse Zondag Salons met Philip Akkerman

In juni en juli organiseert Nest twee workshops met Haagse kunstenaar en Stadstekenaar Philip Akkerman.
Akkerman is vooral bekend van zijn enorme serie zelfportretten, die in 2022 bij Nest te zien waren. Ook is Akkerman de officiële Haagse Stadstekenaar van 2026. Hij tekent daarom een jaar lang stadsgezichten van de verschillende wijken in Den Haag met ei-tempera. In de eerste workshopp laat Akkerman zien hoe je diepte en verte kunt aanbrengen in je tekeningen. Samen met Akkerman teken je deze middag je eigen stadsgezicht met perspectief. In de tweede workshop laat Akkerman zien hoe je kunt schilderen met een eitje, volgens deze eeuwenoude ei-tempera techniek.

Deze zomer organiseert Nest vanaf 8 juli iedere week een workshop voor kinderen tussen 7 en 12 jaar. In de workshop leren de kinderen over verschillende manieren van spelen, wordt veldonderzoek naar speeltuinen gedaan en maken de kinderen uiteindelijk zelf . De workshops zijn los te volgen, maar kunnen ook als serie worden gevolgd.

Nest tipt: Vita Soul Wilmering - Mixed Feelings

Op vrijdag 29 mei opent tijdens Hoogtij bij het Haagse Billytown de Mixed Feelings van de Haagse kunstenaar en filmmaker Vita Soul Wilmering. Haar werk De Mislukte Vakantie is nu te zien in de Out of Office (Still Here) bij Nest. Ook Nest is open deze avond.
Although the weather might feel far from summery, at Nest you can imagine yourself on a sunlit town square, or even a breezy beach. The exhibition Out of Office (Still Here) is open! Alongside the exhibition we're organising various public programmes for all ages. We'll tell you about it in this newsletter.

Nest is Out of Office, but (Still Here)! On Friday May 1st, Labour Day, we opened our new exhibition about inequality and freedom during the summer holidays. Artists from The Hague, national and international artists reflect on their idea of vacations, freedom and access to leisure, sports and play.
Out of Office (Still Here) will be open all summer. During the summer, we organise a public programme focused on those that,,for whatever reason, stay in The Hague. This includes workshops for kids and adults and a real Block Party: a neighbourhood party with music, art, food, workshops and more.

Summery Sunday Salons with Philip Akkerman (in Dutch)

As part of the exhibition Out of Office (Still Here), Nest organises two workshops with The Hague based artist and city illustrator Philip Akkerman.
Akkerman is most famous for his endless series of self-portraits, some of which were exhibited at Nest in 2022. He is also the official city illustrator (Stadstekenaar) of The Hague in 2026. For the period of one year he will draw cityscapes of the various neighbourhoods of The Hague, using his signature egg-tempera style. In the first workshop, Akkerman will teach you how to bring depth into a drawing. Together with Akkerman you'll create your own cityscape. The second workshop focusses on using egg-tempera, a centuries old technique to create long lasting paint.
Participation for the workshops costs €10, together with a valid entry ticket to the exhibition. Tickets are available through the link below. Please note: the workshops will be in Dutch.
This summer, Nest organises a series of 6 workshops for kids ages 7-12. In these workshops they will learn all about various ways of play and games, we'll dig into the history of playgrounds and will develop our own play sets. The workshops can be attended as a series, but also individually.

Exhibition at Billytown, opening 29 May 2026
During Hoogtij, on Friday May 29th, The Hague's artist initiative Billytown will open the exhibition Mix Feelings. A by The Hague based artist and film maker Vita Soul Wilmering. Wilmering's video De Mislukte Vakantie is also on view at Nest in the exhibition Out of Office (Still Here).
