Lately, I’ve been going through a midlife crisis, feeling nostalgic for the ‘experimental’. This is not the only newsletter I write, but I try to have more fun with tone here. Sometimes I guess I think that means I could try ‘provocative’. I left an event last week and notes app’d a great first line: ‘Do you ever go to things and think omg why am I wasting my life?’ but since typing that in a note, I thought it didn’t reflect what I wanted to telegraph about my spectatorship. ‘omg why am I wasting my life’ would imply that I’m thinking of myself more than the work; maybe I can’t abide by that. I laugh at myself, as I parrot that ‘not all things should be for all audiences’. What is certain is that every thought I have needn’t be for an audience.
Busy spring-summer times, a lot going on. Really looking forward to this opening with Oscar this upcoming Thursday, to the Mutter part of the show on Friday, and to Mami performing at Proxy on Saturday.

“Rooted in the notion of sympoiesis, meaning ‘Making-With,’ the work points toward the constant entanglement of living beings — whether bacteria, species, or ecosystems — through interrelated processes. Sympoiesis extends the concept of autopoiesis (‘self-making’): a enclosed system capable of producing and maintaining itself, often symbolized by the autonomous, able-bodied, healthy body. Yet for a body — or any system — to truly heal, sympoiesis becomes crucial. Healing occurs within collectively produced systems; nothing creates itself, and likewise nothing heals by itself. To make-with is to practice collectivity through exchange with others and with the environment.”
