Als onderdeel van de Out of Office (Still Here) organiseert Nest op zaterdag 15 augustus een Block Party: een straatfeest voor de hele buurt en voor alle leeftijden, op het grasveld voor het DCR-gebouw. Tijdens de Block Party is er eten, drinken en muziek, zullen we rondleidingen geven in de , zijn er workshops met verschillende kunstenaars en een creatieve straatmarkt. In samenwerking met onder meer filmtheater en restaurant Flora, Nice Flaps, Club Laak, het dooorp en kunstenaar Laura Snijders.
Het volledige programma en alle kondigen we binnenkort aan, maar zet 15 augustus alvast in je agenda.
Dit weekend bij Nest: een tekenworkshop met Philip Akkerman

In juni en juli organiseert Nest twee workshops met Haagse kunstenaar en Stadstekenaar Philip Akkerman.
Akkerman is vooral bekend van zijn enorme serie zelfportretten, die in 2022 bij Nest te zien waren. Ook is Akkerman de officiële Haagse Stadstekenaar van 2026. Hij tekent daarom een jaar lang stadsgezichten van de verschillende wijken in Den Haag met ei-tempera. In de eerste workshopp laat Akkerman zien hoe je diepte en verte kunt aanbrengen in je tekeningen. Samen met Akkerman teken je deze middag je eigen stadsgezicht met perspectief. In de tweede workshop laat Akkerman zien hoe je kunt schilderen met een eitje, volgens deze eeuwenoude ei-tempera techniek.

Ook dit jaar doet Nest mee aan het kunstprogramma van festival Down The Rabbit Hole. Dit jaar: A View of the Rabbit’s Nest
Behoefte aan meer schermtijd? Bij A View of the Rabbit’s Nest in Het Bos stap je met visuals en in een compleet nieuwe dimensie. Op het grote scherm krijgt een breed scala aan kunstenaars een hi-res erepodium, waaronder Nest-alumni Joeri Woudstra, Ariadne Randall & Matthew D. Gantt, Mark Prendergast, Rebecca Salvadori en Frederik Heyman.
Op 1 juli sluit Nest zich aan bij Free Heri Heri For All, een landelijk initiatief van KIP Republic ter herdenking van Keti Koti, de jaarlijkse viering van de afschaffing van de slavernij in Suriname en het Caribisch gebied.
We nodigen iedereen uit om tussen 16:00 en 19:00 samen te komen voor een gratis Heri Heri maaltijd en deel te nemen in het participatieve kunstproject Tori Fesi van Faluma. In deze groeiende textiele installatie worden persoonlijke verhalen over vrijheid letterlijk in het kunstwerk verweven. In Sranantongo, de meest gesproken creoolse taal in Suriname, betekent Tori Fesi ‘verhalen die ons weven’.

Interviews met kunstenaars uit Out of Office (Still Here)
Voor de Out of Office (Still Here), interviewde Quiller MacQuarrie zeven deelnemende kunstenaars uit de bij bij Nest. Alle kunstenaars kregen dezelfde vragen voorgeschoteld over vrije tijd en zomervakanties. Elk interview breide zich vervolgens uit met specifieke vragen over de praktijken van de kunstenaars.
Sommige interviews zijn alleen het Engels te lezen.

As part of the exhibition Out of Office (Still Here), Nest is organizing a Block Party on Saturday, August 15: a street festival for the entire neighborhood and for all ages, taking place on the lawn in front of the DCR building.During the Block Party, there will be food, drinks, and music. We will offer guided tours of the exhibition, host workshops with various artists, and organize a creative street market. The event is being held in collaboration with, among others, the Flora cinema and restaurant, Nice Flaps drawing collective, Club Laak,het dooorp, and artist Laura Snijders.
We will announce the full program and all collaborating partners soon, but be sure to save August 15 in your calendar.
This weekend at Nest: an exclusive workshop by Philip Akkerman

In June and July, Nest organises two workshops with The Hague based artist and city illustrator Philip Akkerman.
Akkerman is most famous for his endless series of self-portraits, some of which were exhibited at Nest in 2022. He is also the official city illustrator (Stadstekenaar) of The Hague in 2026. For the period of one year he will draw cityscapes of the various neighbourhoods of The Hague, using his signature egg-tempera style. In the first workshop, Akkerman will teach you how to bring depth into a drawing. Together with Akkerman you'll create your own cityscape. The second workshop focusses on using egg-tempera, a centuries old technique to create long lasting paint.
Participation for the workshops costs €10, together with a valid entry ticket to the exhibition. Tickets are available through the link below. Please note: the workshops will be in Dutch.

Are you looking for more screentime? We've got you covered! At A View of the Rabbit’s Nest, Nest artists and others can be seen on a hi-res screen next to Joeri Woudstra's RADIATE stage. On July 1, Nest will join Free Heri Heri For All, a nationwide initiative by KIP Republic commemorating Keti Koti, the annual celebration of the abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Caribbean.
We invite everyone to gather between 16:00 and 19:00 for a free Heri Heri meal and to take part in Tori Fesi, a participatory art project by Faluma. In this growing textile installation, personal stories about freedom are literally woven into the artwork. In Sranantongo, the most widely spoken Creole language in Suriname, Tori Fesi means “stories that weave us together.”

Interviews with artists from Out of Office (Still Here)
For the exhibition Out of Office (Still Here), Quiller MacQuarrie interviewed seven participating artists, including Vita Soul Wilmering, Kexin Hao, Roger Anis, Ilke Gers, Celine Conderelli, Marina Planas, and Philip Akkerman. All of the artists were asked the same set of questions about leisure time and summer vacations. Each interview then expanded into more specific questions about the artists' practices.
