Until 26 October, Thu - Sun, 14:00 - 18:00 hrs
P////AKT is pleased to announce Waakzaam en Dienstbaar by Jivan van der Ende, which comprises an exhibition, a publication, a screening and two performances on 21 September and 26 October.
A play between and submission. That is the lens through which we might view Jivan van der Ende’s work. ‘Waakzaam en Dienstbaar’ (Vigilant and Dutiful) takes its title from the Dutch police motto and builds on Jivan van der Ende’s collaboration with graphic designer Elena Op ’t Eynde in her role as De Politieman (The Policeman).
In previous work, Jivan van der Ende explored archetypes such as firefighters, bodybuilders, and more recently, the police officer. De Politieman, always referred to in this gendered form, plays a double role: both authority figure and designer. These two functions blur; the officer is, in this case, also the editor. The relationship between artist and designer is grounded in trust—in consent. It is this trust that, in turn, gives the officer the power, the authority, to edit, censor, and manipulate the printed material. A veto, with all the consequences that entails. For ‘Waakzaam en Dienstbaar’, Jivan van der Ende explores the friction between agency and submission. A performative process unfolds in which artistic material is subjected to the editorial principles of an external authority. A process that has also resulted in the accompanying and brand new publication ‘Geseponeerd’ (Dismissed), available from 21 September!
On October 12th at 18:00 hrs we’re organizing a first screening of Van der Ende’s short film ‘Corporeal Corruption’, depicting Van der Ende’s five-year collaboration with bodybuilder Jurgen van Wesemael. Location: LAB111 (Info + Tickets)
The exhibition is curated by Bas Hendrikx, who previously collaborated with Jivan van der Ende for the exhibition Open Time – Performing with and for the camera – at the ULAY Foundation in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2022. Bas Hendrikx is a curator at KANAL-Centre Pompidou in Brussels. His work focuses on participatory practices, digital art and queer art history. He is co-editor of Authenticity? (Valiz, 2017) and the editor of Queer Exhibition Histories (Valiz, 2023). Some of his recent exhibitions include Connecting for KANAL-Centre Pompidou, Terms & Expectations for Inter/Access in Toronto, Other Intelligences, Other Natures for NeMe in Cyprus, and RISING, a monumental commission in public space by Tarek Lakhrissi for KANAL-Centre Pompidou. Hendrikx worked for P/////AKT as an associated curator from 2011-2016 and returns in the capacity of guest curator for this exhibition.

The Politics of Rotation is the latest solo exhibition by artist Polina Kanis, curated by Katia Krupennikova.
This project explores the connection between sexualized bodies and state power to raise meaningful discussions on body politics. Originating from Kanis’s durational performance as a pole dancer in a Moscow strip club, the exhibition opens up urgent questions around bodily autonomy, resistance, and the rise of authoritarian ideologies.
The exhibition features video, photography, and a speculative code of conduct for sex workers, and will be accompanied by a public programme including a panel discussion and live performance.
A cross-cultural group exhibition curated by Nesli Gül With works by Awoiska van der Molen , Müge Yılmaz, Kevin Bauer and Zeynep Yılmaz
Mountain as a :iving Archive repositions the mountain as a living repository of geological time, embodied memory, and collective transformation. From meditative to speculative and politically engaged approaches, the works explore themes of landscape, embodiment, aspiration, and the complex traces left by human intervention.
The finissage features a conversation with Awoiska van der Molen (artist & photographer), Mirjam Kooiman (Curator at Foam Photography Museum Amsterdam), and Nesli Gül (curator of the exhibition Mountain as a Living Archive), reflecting on themes of landscape, embodiment, and the traces of human intervention.
