Julika Rudelius, The Seamless Real, 2026, ROZENSTRAAT – a rose is a rose is a rose.
In The Seamless Real toont Julika Rudelius de fascinaties en wijzen van zelfbeheersing die deze wereld structureren. Ze schept een beeldwereld die niet alleen draait om uitgesproken patriarchale uitingen van potentie, maar ook om devotie, onschuld, kwetsbaarheid en onderliggende verlangens die daarin verscholen liggen.
Met een prominente installatie van foto’s en tekeningen heeft Rudelius onze ruimte ingrijpend . Hoewel Rudelius al jarenlang tekent en fotografeert, is dit de eerste keer dat dit werk in een institutionele context naast haar videowerk wordt getoond. Lees verder

➤ 15.08.2026, 17.30 uur – Artist talk Elif Satanaya Özbay met Minne Kersten
Özbay en Kersten zijn allebei kunstenaars die veel met video werken. Daarnaast zijn ze goede vrienden. In dit informele gesprek nemen ze je mee in hun werkwijze en de ideeën achter hun werk. Ze delen hoe nieuwe projecten ontstaan, welke technische keuzes ze maken, hoe ze omgaan met uitdagingen in het maakproces en wat hen inspireert.

Ter afsluiting organiseren we een intieme, informele middag met bijdragen van de twee schrijvers, gevolgd door een gesprek met Julika Rudelius. Tatjana Almuli bespreekt aan de hand van haar recent verschenen boek Tot lijf gemaakt de collectieve fixatie op schoonheid en maakbaarheid. Rosebud #18: Elif Satanaya Özbay, And then we watched Khabib fly out of the octagon (2019)
Naast Julika Rudelius’ , presenteren we in Rosebud een videowerk van Elif Satanaya Özbay.
Özbayis een in Amsterdam gevestigde beeldend kunstenaar die werkt met installaties, performances en bewegend beeld. Geïnspireerd door horrorcinema en onderzoekt ze hoe verhalen en lichamen binnen de visuele cultuur worden geënsceneerd en van betekenis veranderen.
And then we watched Khabib fly out of the octagon is een familiefilm. Achterin een garage zien we het lichaam van een bokser, dat van links naar rechts beweegt, het tempo opvoert en bij iedere stoot een kreet slaakt. De bokser belichaamt meer dan zichzelf: een voortdurende cyclus van , en beklemming.
Welke lichamen mogen zich vrij en ongehinderd door de stad bewegen? Volgende maand veranderen kunstenaars in en rondom de ROZENSTRAAT de openbare ruimte in een plek voor spel, onderzoek en provocatie.

In The Seamless Real Julika Rudelius exposes the fascinations and modes of self control that structure this world. The exhibition reveals an image world concerned not only with explicit patriarchal expressions of potency, but also with devotion, innocence, vulnerability, and the latent desires concealed within them.
With a prominent installation of photographs and drawings Rudelius radically transformed our space. Although Rudelius has been drawing and photographing for many years, it is the first time this work is being shown alongside her video work in an institutional context. Learn more…

They discuss how image ideals are changing, and how Rudelius explores physical and social surfaces as carriers of ideas about power, identity and representation. More information…

Özbay and Kersten are both artists who work extensively with video and are also close friends. In this informal conversation, they discuss their working methods and the ideas behind their practice, sharing how projects develop, the technical choices they make, and how they approach challenges in the process, along with what inspires them.

To mark the conclusion this exhibition, we are organising an informal afternoon of talks by the two writers, followed by a conversation with Julika Rudelius. Drawing on her recently published book Tot lijf gemaakt (Reduced to a Body), Tatjana Almuli discusses our collective fixation on beauty and . Jente Posthuma presents, for the first time on this occasion, the essay she wrote in dialogue with the exhibition. More information…
Rosebud #18: Elif Satanaya Özbay, And then we watched Khabib fly out of the octagon (2019)
Alongside Julika Rudelius' solo exhibition, we present a video work by Elif Satanaya Özbay as part of Rosebud, our parallel presentation series.
Özbay is an visual artist working across installation, performance, moving image, and script-based forms. Drawing from horror cinema, archival material, mythology, and popular culture, her work explores how stories, bodies, and histories are staged and transformed within visual culture.
And then we watched Khabib fly out of the octagon is a family film. In the back of a garage we find a boxer’s body moving from left to right, speeding up, grunting with every punch. The boxer becomes less an individual than an embodiment of an ongoing cycle, caught between , endurance and entrapment.
Which bodies are allowed to move freely and unhindered through the city? Next month, artists in and around ROZENSTRAAT transform public space into a site for play, research, and provocation.
