Beste lezer,
Clem Edwards' Slow Swoon verkent de drempel als een punt in ruimte en tijd, en raakt bovendien aan diverse betekenissen van het Engelse passing. Dit omvat het idee van de reproductieve functie van het gezin, waarin zaken via afstamming generaties lang worden doorgegeven. Tegelijkertijd verwijst passing naar gender en seksualiteit en hoe iemand in verschillende contexten wordt gezien. Beiden zijn sterk verankerd in onze gecultiveerde omgeving; een constellatie van , architectuur en entourage.
Slow Swoon komt voort uit een door de kunstenaar gemaakte assemblage waarin drie individuele bloemdelen samen één fictieve bloem vormen, een bloem in drie delen. Deze sculptuur wordt vergezeld door een reeks handgemaakte scharnieren van brons en messing—bevestigd aan de van de ruimte—en een 'stel' strandstoelen, samengesteld uit in plastic verpakte bloemresten en gevonden en geschonken voorwerpen. Zo ontstaat een fragiele samenhang van objecten; op de drempel van het dragen en gedragen worden, van passages en passing.
Graag nodigen we je uit voor een speciale rondleiding door de kunstenaar op 18 oktober van 16:00 tot 18:00 u. Dit evenement markeert de lancering van Clems zine Slow Swoon: Some Thoughts on the Things I've Made. Ook zal hen een nieuw boek presenteren voor de Manifold .

Over ons huidige jaarprogrammaOf Ghosts and Flowers Of Ghosts and Flowersbelichaamt een overgang van ons vorig jaarprogrammaThe Sphinx's Riddlerondom rouw en transformatie naar een expositie- en over niet-lineaire . De urgentie hiervoor komt voort uit de inhoud vanThe Sphinx's Riddleen hoe het systeem van lineaire tijd dat ons wordt opgelegd, uiteenvalt in het licht van rouw, de dood en diepgaande mentale en fysieke . Daarnaast voelt het urgent om alternatieve manieren te bedenken om met tijd om te gaan, omdat ons lineaire tijdsysteem verbonden is aan ons op groei gericht economisch systeem; de grootste aanjager van . De belichaamde sensaties die we zullen onderzoeken, omvatten zowel als menselijke perspectieven. Of Ghosts and Flowers vertrekt vanuit het werk van Rosemary Mayer (1943-2014). Slow Swoon is de tweede expositie binnen dit programma; deze cyclus zal worden voortgezet met exposities van Steve Kado en Francisca Khamis Giacoman.

Manifold Books, geïnitieerd door Maartje Fliervoet, is een platform dat verbindingen tussen kunst en boeken onderzoekt. Bij iedere worden een aantal titels toegevoegd aan de boekcollectie (inclusief ). Manifold Books is per 11 mei 2021 een stichting geworden. De bestuursleden zijn: Arnisa Zeqo (voorzitter), Stéphanie Noach (secretaris) en Paul Domela (penningmeester).

Dear reader,
Clem Edwards' Slow Swoon explores the threshold as a point in time and space, and touches upon various meanings of the word passing. This includes the idea of the reproductive family and its lineages, in which things are passed down generations, and of 'passing' in the sense of gender and sexuality, and how one is perceived in different contexts. Both ideas are strongly anchored in our cultivated environment; a constellation of daily objects, architecture and landscape entourage.
Slow Swoon developed from an assemblage created by the artist in which three individual flower parts together form one fictional flower, a flower in three parts. This sculpture is accompanied by a series of handmade bronze and brass hinges—attached to the supporting structure of the space—and a 'set' of beach chairs, composed of flower remains and gathered and gifted materials. This creates a fragile cohesion of objects, on the threshold of carrying and being carried, of passages and passing.
We would like to invite you to join us for a special tour of the show by the artist on October 18, from 4-6pm. The event marks the launch of a zine from Clem titled Slow Swoon: Some Thoughts on the Things I've Made. They will also present a new book for the Manifold Books collection.

About our current year programme Of Ghosts and Flowers Of Ghosts and Flowersproposes a transition from last year's programmeThe Sphinx's Riddlearound grief and transformation to an exhibition and event series about non-linear time experiences. The urgency for this arose from the content of this programme, and how the system of linear time imposed on us disintegrates in the face of death, grief and profound mental and physical transformative processes. In addition, it feels urgent to formulate alternative forms of dealing with time because our system of linear time is linked to our economic system; the biggest driver of climate change. The embodied sensations we will look into include non-human perspectives as well as human ones. Of Ghosts and Flowers departs from the work of Rosemary Mayer (1943-2014). Slow Swoon is the second exhibition within this programme; shows by Steve Kado and Francisca Khamis Giacoman will continue this cycle.

Initiated by Maartje Fliervoet, Manifold Books is a platform that explores connections between art and books. With each exhibition a few titles are added to its book collection (all including artists’ interventions). As of May 11, 2021, Manifold Books has become a foundation. Its board members are: Arnisa Zeqo (chair), Stéphanie Noach (secretary) and Paul Domela (treasurer).
